In 2007 we launched Hayah Cosmetics, a makeup line inspired by and created for Black women. After sharing the line with the very women who inspired it—the beautiful women of our families—we hit the road (with our small babies in tow) and traveled to Black Expos to introduce our amazing products on a larger scale. It was both exhausting and exhilarating!
As we continued to work tirelessly, we grabbed the attention of both local and national publications including Birmingham, Sister 2 Sister, and Sophisticate’s Black Hair magazines (just to name a few). Hayah Cosmetics was even acknowledged by the Obama Administration!
With our expo experience, we decided to host our own expo in Birmingham with the Magic City Black Expo from 2008-2012. The MCBE was a community event where African-American business owners showcased and sold their products and services. It was a tremendous success with features in The Birmingham News, Fast Company, and Black Enterprise magazines. CNN also highlighted our accomplishments with the expo!
Throughout our years as business partners with Hayah Cosmetics, Darrius held down the fort as a phenomenal natural hairstylist. He’s earned international acclaim from his 20 years of professional expertise, experience and unique approach to styling afro-textured hair. He is a highly sought-after workshop leader and keynote speaker. Peace has also authored three bestselling books and travels extensively teaching, training and empowering others with the My Hair Ain’t Nappy message and method.
Named one of Essence.com’s “24 Influencers Making Black Beauty History Now” and featured on BlackEnterprise.com, Peace is a highly recognized industry expert.
